We had hoped to show two dogs this year. Unfortunately, life happens, and between college classes, work, and family demands, we were not able to attend any shows in 2011.
Our beloved Mojo passed away suddenly on the morning of November 29, 2011. He is shown below. He was just a beautiful male who was show-quality, but he never liked doing the show thing like his sister Spice did. He just wanted to be himself and hang out with us. He absolutely loved going on walks. He had the best personality, and we miss him everyday.
Ch. Empire’s Legend Spice Girl retired in mid-2010 to take care of her daughters Tucson and Kiwi, who were born August 9, 2010. Spice was a show-dog through and through, and she just loved to go to shows and couldn’t wait to get into the ring. She was a wonderful traveler, was great at standing still to get groomed, and she was always such a little Diva. Often she was a ham for the camera. Unfortunately, we learned that Spice had begun suffering from Congestive Heart Failure in early January 2012. We had multiple advanced diagnostic tests performed and put her on a regimen of medications to manage her disease and to make her as comfortable as possible. She was doing wonderfully, but her heart gave out a week later, and she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.
Spice's daughters Tucson and Kiwi loved their Mom. The three were inseparable until Kiwi moved to California, where she recently had her own first litter. Tucson was very sad at losing Spice. During this time, Tucson developed a cough which turned into pneumonia. Her condition improved immediately with the correct medications. But several weeks later, her condition worsened again, and even with the skilled intervention of Purdue University's top veterinarians, Tucson passed away mid-February 2012 from complications of pneumonia. She was only 18 months old.
We still have Rocky, our original Bulldog, who is now 8 years old and going strong. We stay in contact with many of the owners of Rocky's puppies, and these puppies are doing great and are very healthy. We also have Genevieve, Mindy's black-brindle French Bulldog, whom we are convinced is crazy.
We are hoping to bring a new little Bullie into our family in 2013. We haven't decided yet if we want to get back into showing, or maybe train a certified therapy dog, which are in high demand in our area.
